Extracts from the 2004 revision of the TUCO Constitution, dealing with the Terms and Reference and Membership of the Organisation
| 3 | The objectives for which TUCO is established are: |
| (a) To promote quality standards in the practice of catering and associated services within universities and institutions of higher and further education funded by the Higher and Further Education Funding Councils of the United Kingdom. (b) To advance education and training. (c) To provide a forum to enable members to learn, inform, communicate and act collectively to mutual benefit of the individual member institutions. |

| 4 | In furtherance of its objectives the organisation shall have the following aims: |
| (a) To promote and support standards and codes of professional practice for those engaged in universities and institutions of higher education. (b) To hold conferences, meetings, seminars and discussions. (c) To institute and establish training courses, awards and prizes. (d) To seek opportunities to exploit economies of scale available by co-ordinating the demand of individual universities for goods and/or services and utilising the collective purchasing opportunities of universities in achieving value for money within their purchasing activities, which may be on a national, inter-regional or regional basis. To this end, members undertake to use their best endeavours to provide support and commitment for any supply arrangements proposed and/or established by TUCO, and where authorised by individual member institutions, TUCO may act as their purchasing agent in obtaining tenders, and/or entering into negotiations and/or contracts for the supply of specific goods and/or services. (e) To confer, consult and maintain contact and co-operate with any authorities, associations, societies, institutions and the relevant lead body whose work is appropriate to the work of the organisation. (f) To receive and hold funds to make payments for work of the organisation. |

| Membership: Qualification | |
| 5 | (a) Member institutions shall consist of designated universities and institutions of higher and further education within the United Kingdom. |
| (b) Individual membership of the organisation shall comprise of an agreed person at the member institution who shall be directly employed to fulfil the management role for the catering provision of that institution. Those persons employed directly or indirectly by a third party operator shall be expressly precluded from membership. | |
| (c) Applicants will be granted either Member or Associate Member status, as defined in clauses 5 and 6 below. | |
| Grade of membership | |
| 6 | A Member shall be an agreed representative of an institution /s who shall have the right to vote at Regional and General Meetings for all those Members whom he/she represents at the time. Members may attend all such meetings, hold TUCO Officer posts and benefit from all activities of the organisation |
| 7 | An Associate Member shall be an agreed eligible person responsible for a secondary catering operation within a member institution, but into whose activities the Member has no managerial or organisational responsibility. Associate Members may attend TUCO meetings and may benefit from all the activities of TUCO, but may not hold TUCO posts and do not carry automatic voting rights. A Member may nominate an Associate Member within their institution to vote in their absence. |
| Application for Membership | |
| 8 | Application for membership should be made to the Chairman of the appropriate TUCO Region, who shall assess the application. The proposed application shall then be placed before a Regional Group Meeting for approval. Acceptance of membership by the Regional Group shall be deemed as acceptance by TUCO. |
| 9 | Application for Associate Membership should be made to the Member of the relevant institution. If the Member supports the application, it must then be forwarded to the Regional Chairman, who will follow the procedure above |
| Subscription | |

10 |
(a) Continued membership of the organisation shall be dependent upon the payment of an annual subscription. (b) The annual subscription for each grade of membership shall be set for the suceeding year at the TUCO Annual General Meeting. (c) The annual subscription shall be due on joining the association on receipt of invoice and annually thereafter. |

Resignation 11
Suspension or Expulsion

(b) A member whose subscription is more than 6 months in arrears of recipt of invoice shall be deeemed to have resigned. (c) In the event that a member ceases to fulfill the membership criteria he/she will be deemed to have resigned. (d) There is no entitlement to a refund of subscription fees on resignation.
(a) Break the rules of the organisation, or (b) Bring the organisation into disrepute, or (c) Act unlawfully or inappropriately in the name of the organisation. The procedure for suspension or expulsion is: (a) A case must be sent, in writing, to the National Chairman (or, where the complaint is against the National Chairman, to the President) who will investigate the case and present the findings to the Chairman's Group. (b) The Chairmen's Group will decide if there are reasonable grounds for suspension or expulsion. (c) The member shall be given an opportunity to appear before the Chairman's Group to answer complaints made against him. The invitation to the member together with the written details of the complaint will be sent aat least 14 days before the Chairmen's Group meeting. The member may be accompanied by a friend who attends purely in an advisory capacity and does not act as the members representative. (d) The member shall not be suspended or expelled unless at least two thirds of the Chair's Group vote in favour of his/her suspension or expulsion. |

| 15 | The regional boundaries of TUCO shall be those agreed from time to time at a General Meeting. |
