Baker of the Year Competition 2012

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

California Raisins Future Baker of the Year is delighted to have appointed renowned baking industry figures Hugh Weeks and Colin Lomax to head up their team of judges and co-ordinators for their 2012 event.

During March, April and May Weeks and Lomax will visit individual colleges up and down England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland to watch enthusiastic students compete for the title and to win the first prize for the winning team to attend a weeks bakery course at the Richemont School in Switzerland.

Places are limited and there is already a big demand to participate from colleges around the country.

Teams will consist of three people all of whom must be working towards a recognised national bakery qualification.

Throughout a five hour time limit the teams will be expected to produce variety of goods from such categories as Fermented and Savoury products to Confectionery and Innovation. Judges will be looking for and awarding marks for overall appearance, flavour, skill, technique and workmanship.

Finalists will be invited to attend the ABST conference weekend at Alton Towers, in June 2012, where California Raisins will announce the winner.
Dee Cassey, marketing manager for California Raisins, comments: “This competition will not only give the college the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in bread making, confectionery, savoury and innovation using California Raisins, but also allow students to showcase their abilities.”
