Harper Adams University College has been recognised for its efforts in ‘green’ catering after picking up a Catey award. It won the Sustainable Business Award, celebrating the sustainable and environmental practices within its catering operations, making sure that food is sourced and disposed of ethically and that Fairtrade produce is promoted within the department at the Graze and Kaldi Cafes. “Our sustainability work involves not just the catering team, but also senior managers, estates and more, including our environment and waste management officer, who has helped us to achieve an 85% recycling rate for waste materials,” said catering manager David Nuttall, who received the award from actress Joanna Lumley. He added that the win is a “great honour for everyone involved”. The university’s catering department was also recognised by the judges for engaging with the local community and in educating suppliers about sustainability. |
