Major construction work at the University of Surrey has been completed, bringing students and staff stylish and modern new catering and accommodation facilities. The 2,430sq m student reception and residence building, built by Scott Brownrigg, comprises a full service kitchen, café lounge, bar area and student meeting facilities. It will provide foodservice provision for students living in the 42 new en-suite bedrooms with kitchenettes. It has been designed to provide a ‘gateway’ to the university’s Manor Park campus, Scott Brownrigg said. The company added the new building incorporates a “dynamic curved sweep of rippled zinc cladding which wraps around the feature stair and links the angled canopy beyond”. Customers of the café will be able to enjoy the modern architecture of the zinc canopy, which sits above the space and appears to be unsupported. The café also has fully glazed windows and sliding doors that open onto a terrace for use in the summer months. |
