3Cs pilot takes off
5th May 2009
The pilot of the 3Cs Programme was held at the University of Birmingham on April 24th, with such success that future sessions are already being planned. The opening day, run in conjunction with Moon Developments, was attended by operations and supervisory staff, who received initial training in each of the 3Cs: care, creativity and cost.
Speaking to UC at the event, organiser Bill Brogan said: “We’ve been very happy with the response. Sixty-three people attended today and we are already looking at rolling it out across the regions, and developing it to the next level. I’ve spoken to Moon about this and some dates are already set.”
The cost to run the programme in your own region is £3,000 per day to cover Moon’s involvement and travel expenses. However, they can train up to 60 people in one session, making the cost very competitive. Gordon Robertson. Director of Moon Developments, explained: “The plan is to do nine regional days. Our concern is that, as successful as today has been, we’re still only picking at fragments.
"If you’re only dealing with, say, 10 or 20 from each university, it’s much more of a challenge to keep it following through. We would also like to be able to tailor our approach for each individual university.”
On the day, the delegates were spit into three groups and they then all attended three 90-minute presentations, one for each ‘C’. Interactivity was very much encouraged, and the programme was devised by Moon to keep the delegates’ minds as focused as possible.
Bill expressed his delight with the format, saying: “The attendees have really enjoyed coming away from the workplace and networking with people at their level, and they’ve also enjoyed the fact that the course doesn’t make you sit in one place, they go around and have different things thrown at them. Also, the sessions of 90 minutes each has kept everyone energised, then they’ve had a break and moved onto a new challenge.”
For more information on how to attend or arrange a session in your region, speak to your regional TUCO Chair or Learning and Development representative.
