Regional Purchasing
Date Published:1st August 2008Most further and higher education food purchasing is facilitated either by TUCO or by the University Purchasing Regional consortia, operating under a number of 'commodity' groups. The current agreements managed by TUCO are on the TUCO web site; the regional purchasing consortia tend to be more active in local or regional procurement, such a meat, dairy, greengrocery and the like. Details of much of these Regional Purchasing activities can be found on "the only HE approved vertical portal for eProcurement in the UK" at www.procureweb.ac.uk. This site is regularly updated with latest news and other details. Some regional consortia also have agreements for catering equipment, usually relating to smaller items. Much larger equipment will be dealt with individually by each institution or via agreements available from the Office of Government Commerce.
