Recycling at Warwick

Warwick Conferences, the umbrella organisation for the three purpose built training and conference centres and the conference park at The University of Warwick, has invested over £10,000 in recycling developments.
Increasingly aware of their corporate social responsibility, Warwick Conferences is focusing on educating staff and reducing all aspects of environmental impact relating to business activities, in line with their ongoing Environmental Policy.
Chefs on hot coals

The British BBQ team are to share their award-winning secrets at Skills for Chefs conference at The University of Sheffield. Ben Bartlett captain of the British BBQ team will be running a 'taste and sensory' workshop at the conference covering the subjects of fuels, smoke, liquid injection, marinades and pits! David Mckown, Director of the conference said: "This will be a very topical session since BBQs are becoming a regular feature of university catering and they are certainly very popular with students and conference organisers". In addition to the workshop Ben and his team will be preparing a BBQ with a 'Cowboy Theme' for the social programme.
Korean students at Birmingham

Birmingham University has played host to a group of Korean Students hoping to learn more about Fairtrade. The students would like their university to become the first Fairtrade university in Korea.
While they were in Birmingham, they had lunch with the Director of Hospitality and Accommodation Services (Geoff Pringle) and other members of the University's Fairtrade Steering Group and Ethical Trade Society. They were then shown round some of the campus outlets to show which FT products on sale and were amazed at how many different products were on sale.
Scores on the doors

Northumbria's catering departments have been hailed as excellent under a new City Council hygiene rating system. The Scores on the doors scheme, launched by the Newcastle City Council, is designed to promote food safety and empower consumer choice by making information regarding hygiene available to the public. The rating system is based on FSA guidelines and runs from excellent (five stars) to poor (one star).
Raising the game at Cambridge

Cambriadge University is set to hold a conference for Catering Managers at Robinson College on 28 April. The Raising the Game conference will feature presentations from a number of noteworthy speakers, including Nigel Hawthorne, Chef Partron at northcote Manor and a number of gastro pubs, Rose prince, Food Writer for the Telegraph and Peter Rand, Chairman of the Rand Association. The conference cost £30 to attend and will be of benefit to anyone who manages in univestity catering.
