Uni chefs go East

Oriental Merchants, the purveyor of authentic Asian and Oriental ingredients is bringing Indonesian cuisine to university menus by flying chefs East on a cookery trip. Chefs, including Mark Price from Loughborough University, will be jetted to Jakarta in January to learn the secrets of the Orient and taught how to prepare fine meals from scratch by local chefs. The trip will be a culinary adventure and the schedule includes factory visits, a city tour, sampling of various regional Indonesian cuisines as well as local variant of Chinese food (Chinese merchants still wields strong influence in the economic and financial management of the country). This study tour was sponsored by ABC Heinz Limited.
University Charity Initiative

Loughborough is the latest university to raise money for chairy through sales of water. Loughborough University has recently started selling Fuel water to help save lives in India. Profits from the sale of bottled water at the Loughborough University campus will be ploughed into providing clean drinking water for a remote Indian village, under a new scheme launched this month. imago, the University’s in-house catering provider and events and conference organiser, is hoping to raise thousands of pounds through its ‘Raindrops for life’ campaign. The money will be used to help people living in Chaidipura, a village situated at the foothills of the Vindhyachal Valley that is home to around 220 people.
3663 embraces greener fuel

3663, First for Foodservice, has teamed up with oil recycling company Converts2Green to trial a project using recycled waste vegetable oil from customers and food manufacturers before turning it into sustainable biodiesel to fuel its trucks. 3663 first introduced bio-diesel in their fleet, as a blend with mineral diesel, over four years ago.
Starbucks hit universities

Starbucks has signed its first licensing agreement with a UK university in a deal which will see students at the University of Surrey, sipping tall cappuccinos on campus.
The licensed outlet is set to open by the end of the year and is the first in a series of university campus deals the coffee chain is targeting in the UK in order to boost its presence outside of its traditional and saturated high-street market.

In the 1990s, 3663 First for Foodservice set the foodservice industry benchmark for the way it placed environmental issues at the heart of business management. It began environmental practices around 12 years ago and has continued to build upon them year after year. 3663 was the first foodservice company to achieve a corporate ISO 14001 Certified Environmental Management system, which was obtained in 2003 and today, 3663 is the only national dedicated foodservice provider to hold ISO 14001.
